The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has initiated a suo moto case regarding the proposed construction of luxury hotels in and around Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR).
According to Hindustan Times, this action comes after the Assam Tourism Development Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding with Tata Group for a INR 120 crore five-star hotel project. Residents, farmers, and rights groups have expressed concerns about potential displacement and environmental harm. The case is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday.
