Indian travellers planning a journey to Japan can now benefit from the newly introduced eVisa system. Rolled out on April 1, 2024, this initiative is designed to simplify the visa application process and enhance convenience for tourists visiting Japan.
Under this fresh system, Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing in India can apply for a single-entry short-term tourism visa, allowing stays of up to 90 days. The application procedure remains largely unchanged, with applicants required to submit their applications through designated Japan Visa Application Centers operated by VFS Global.
However, instead of receiving a traditional visa sticker affixed to their passports, successful applicants will be issued an electronic visa (eVisa) in the form of a digital document. It’s worth noting that applicants still need to submit their applications in person at the Visa Application Centers but will receive the eVisa electronically upon approval.
Those granted the eVisa must present their “visa issuance notice” on a mobile device upon arrival at a Japanese airport. This notice must be accessible via the Internet, and alternatives such as PDFs, photos, screenshots, or printed copies will not be accepted.
