DigiYatra, which enables paperless check-ins for domestic air travel, is poised to expand its services to international passengers with the upcoming digital enrolment of passports.
“Currently, DigiYatra is available only for domestic travel, but we aim to extend it to international travel soon. Our e-passport based enrolment is undergoing prototype testing, and we expect to roll out the new update by the end of this month or mid-June,” said Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of DigiYatra Foundation, the AWS (Amazon Web Services) summit in Bangalore on Wednesday.
The foundation is also in talks with the Bureau of Immigration in India and international airports to facilitate seamless travel for outbound fliers from India. “We have initiated discussions with other countries. The EU has its own digital identity system, which we aim to leverage for a potential prototype between the two regions,” Khadakbhavi added.
Additionally, pilot testing with hotel chains is in progress. Addressing data privacy concerns, Khadakbhavi assured that DigiYatra does not store user data.
Generative AI Services
In response to growing demand from Indian businesses for generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) services, AWS announced on Wednesday that it will offer a faster and more secure way for customers to build and scale Gen AI applications.
“The availability of Amazon Bedrock in the AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) region will support customers, including public sector organisations and companies in regulated industries, in innovating with generative AI and choosing where to run and store their applications. Deploying generative AI workloads closer to end users will help meet low latency needs, which are crucial for tasks such as on-the-fly content generation, interactive user experiences, and real-time conversational insights,” AWS stated.
Shalini Kapoor, Chief Technologist for APJ Public Sector and Director of AWS India and South Asia, said, “The availability of Amazon Bedrock in India will further drive innovation among large enterprises, startups, independent software vendors, and public sector organisations, and support their efforts to upskill their talent in generative AI.”
