Uttarakhand updates tourism policy with tax benefits

The Uttarakhand Cabinet has approved an amendment to the state’s 2018 tourism policy, specifying the period during which different categories of industries will receive SGST (State Goods and Services Tax) compensations.

According to the amendment, A, B, and B+ category industries in Uttarakhand will receive 100% SGST compensation for the first five years, followed by 90%, 75%, and 75% respectively for the next five years. Similarly, large, mega, and ultra-mega projects will get SGST compensation of 30%, 50%, and 50% respectively for 10 years.

The state Cabinet also decided to extend the service period of specialist doctors until they turn 65 years of age. Additionally, the Cabinet will introduce a Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority Bill in the state Assembly to develop, operate, and maintain the urban transportation system. The draft bill was prepared based on the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and was inspired by the Kerala Metropolitan Transport Authority Act.

Furthermore, the Cabinet approved an amendment to the cooperative committee’s statutes, reserving 33% of seats on its management committees for women. This move aims to end nepotism and bring greater transparency to the election process and functioning of these committees.

The Cabinet also approved provisions for the relocation of families living around the Mahasu Devta temple, as suggested in a master plan for its redevelopment, which is expected to boost tourism and generate employment opportunities in the area.
