Tourism Malaysia targets Gen z travellers and wedding segment from India

Tourism Malaysia recorded 324,548 arrivals from India during April-December, it’s number 4 source market in 2022, and is now focusing on tapping GenZ travellers, adventure-seekers and weddings.

The country is focusing on the Gen Z travellers using digital technology, and by showcasing Instagrammable destinations. Besides this, wedding is another area of interest with its hotels and resorts offering variety of spaces for organising different rituals, and improving on offering Indian cuisine, especially vegetarian. The highlight of this strategy is to diversify tourist traffic to destinations and regions beyond the popular capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

Having just taken over as Director for Tourism Malaysia, Mumbai, Noriah Jaffar spoke to select media professionals about their vision for India and these areas that need focus.

She said that they are preparing to celebrate Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and will see activities being undertaken during the next two years in that direction.

From January to April this year, Malaysia has recorded 164,566 arrivals from India.
