THSC partners with Visa to train 20,000 youth

The Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council (THSC), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has partnered with Visa, a global leader in digital payments, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

This three-year collaboration, valued at up to USD 1 million, aims to upskill at least 20,000 Indian youth in tourism-relevant skills. The initiative was formalised in the presence of Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Government of India.

The partnership will focus on enhancing the tourism service experience by training youth across 10 Indian states, including Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and West Bengal, in essential roles such as tour guides, customer service executives, naturalists, and paragliding tandem pilots.

Minister Jayant Chaudhary highlighted the importance of this partnership in equipping youth with the skills needed to thrive in the tourism sector, positioning India as a premier global tourism destination.

Visa has been actively involved in strengthening India’s tourism landscape through its deep data and analytics expertise, contributing to increasing inbound tourism by providing valuable insights to the Ministry of Tourism, and promoting India’s diverse destinations globally. Kelly Mahon Tullier, Vice Chair, Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer, Visa, emphasised the initiative’s goal to elevate youth employment prospects and improve the overall experience for tourists visiting India.
