Sikkim Science Centre added to state’s tourist spots

Tourists can now add the Sikkim Science Centre to their must-visit list, as it has officially become part of the state’s tourism itinerary.

Sandeep Tambe, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), announced that including the Sikkim Science Centre in the tourist itinerary will enhance its visibility and offer visitors a unique and enriching experience.

“The centre’s interactive exhibits and programs cater to all ages, making it an exciting and educational destination for everyone,” he added.

Located at Marchak, Ranipool in East Sikkim, the Sikkim Science Centre was established by the Sikkim State Council of Science & Technology in collaboration with the National Council of Science Museums.

The centre features a 3D theatre, planetarium, and innovation hub, providing immersive and educational experiences for science enthusiasts. By promoting visits to the centre, the state aims to foster scientific curiosity and learning.

Visitors will be encouraged to explore the centre’s offerings and participate in its various activities, he said.

He also mentioned that the inclusion of the Science Centre in the tourism itinerary will not only attract visitors but also serve as a catalyst for scientific awareness among the local population, particularly students.

The main galleries at the centre include engaging interactive exhibits. The “Unique Humankind” gallery is a significant exposition showcasing what makes humans unique among various life forms on Earth. Additionally, students can enjoy the interactive exhibits in the Fun Science gallery. The Children’s Activity Corner offers a variety of puzzles and science kits, sparking imagination and curiosity in young minds.
