Odisha announced World’s First Melanistic Tiger Safari

The world’s first melanistic tiger safari will open near Similipal, Odisha, offering a chance to observe these rare creatures.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announces the launch of the world’s first melanistic tiger safari, granting the tourists a glimpse into Odisha’s unique biodiversity.

2018 NTCA (National Tiger Conservation Authority) report confirms that Similipal Tiger Reserve is the only home to wild melanistic tigers. A new open-enclosure safari will house rescued and surplus tigers, offering visitors an encounter with these rare creatures, alongside educational opportunities.

Odisha Forest Department stated that, “The safari shall boost the wildlife tourism sector in Odisha. This pioneering initiative unites research, conservation, and adventure, raising awareness for Odisha’s unique treasure.”
