New art lounge comes up at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, marked the launch of the first art lounge in India. Curated by Sanjana Shah from Tao Art Gallery, this aesthetic experience allows travellers to engage with the art and artists of that particular city/culture. This premier ‘artport’ aims to be a conversation starter on the emerging cultural landscape of India as well as a stepping stone towards setting a mark on the global art scene.

The curatorial project reflects on the wonderment of a traveller as they juggle between anxious unpredictability and elicited enthusiastic energy.

Talking about the initiative, Sanjana Shah, Independent Curator and Creative Director, Tao Art Gallery, said, “Through these abstract visuals, the traveller is filled with further inspiration as they view this artistic narrative along their journey. The art is meant to engage, create dialogues and allow for subjective interpretations. Like travel, it transports one to an alternate place and leaves much to be experienced by the person in question.”

She added, “Through the interesting landscapes of artists like Kallpana Shah and Vipul Prajapati, the colourful patterns weaved by Ravi Mandlik and Nahid Merchant and the intriguing narratives explored by Vyom and Mehul Rathod, each viewer is made to embark on their individualistic journey.”
