Lufthansa terms India as its fastest-growing major market

In a recent statement, Lufthansa’s Chief Commercial Officer, Heiko Reitz, declared India as the airline’s fastest-growing major market. The German airline is strategically redirecting its resources by reallocating capacity from other countries to meet the increasing demand in India. Lufthansa’s commitment to the Indian market was underscored by the launch of a new service to Hyderabad earlier this week, expanding its existing network that already covers four cities in the country.

Currently operating 64 weekly flights to India, Lufthansa aims to connect passengers not only to Germany but also to destinations beyond. Despite global challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Reitz highlighted that Lufthansa’s capacity to India has surged by 14% compared to pre-pandemic levels, showcasing the airline’s confidence in the region’s growth potential.

Reitz, responding to inquiries about the competitive landscape in India, expressed optimism about the market’s trajectory. He stated that India’s aviation market is experiencing rapid growth, leaving ample room for multiple airlines to expand their presence. This positive outlook aligns with Lufthansa’s strategic decision to strengthen its position in India, recognizing the country’s significance in its overall growth strategy.
