Kerala Tourism seals ₹250cr deal with Morex Group for Bekal Tourism Village project

Kerala Tourism has officially entered into a partnership with the Morex Group for the implementation of the Bekal Tourism Village project, marking a significant step forward for the state’s tourism sector.

The agreement, valued at an estimated investment of ₹INR 250 crore, has become the first proposal to materialize from the various initiatives presented at the Tourism Investors Meet 2023 (TIM).

During a formal ceremony, Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas conferred the license agreement for the Bekal Tourism Village project to Sherief Maulakkiriath, the Chairman and Managing Director of Morex Group of Companies based in Kanhangad. Bekal Resorts Development Corporation Limited (BRDC), a government-owned entity under the Department of Tourism, will oversee the execution of the Bekal Tourism Village project situated in Kasaragod district.

Minister Riyas highlighted that the project, categorized as a government initiative at TIM, attracted substantial interest, with a total investment of ₹15,000 crore in proposals. After a thorough evaluation process, Morex Group emerged as the chosen investor following the submission of an Expression of Interest (EoI).

The Bekal Tourism Village project, set to receive ₹250 crore investment in two phases from Morex Group, will feature tourism activity zones catering to both domestic and international tourists. Minister Riyas emphasized the project’s potential to enhance tourism in Bekal and the wider Malabar region. Bekal is poised to become a focal point for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) events and destination weddings, adding to its allure, according to the Minister.

Highlighting the ongoing efforts to scrutinize investment proposals, Minister Riyas mentioned the role of the newly established facilitation center. He anticipates that more projects will come to fruition in the coming months, contributing to job creation and furthering tourism development in the state. According to the agreement terms, Morex Group will receive approximately 33.18 acres of land in Kolavayal, Ajanur panchayat, Hosdurg taluk, Kasaragod district, for a lease period of 30 years.
