Government monitors airline prices during holidays

With the festive season approaching, many families are preparing for holiday travel, which typically leads to a rise in airline ticket prices. In response, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu assured that the government is closely monitoring fare increases to prevent excessive hikes during this period.

At the India Regional Air Mobility Conference, Naidu emphasised the government’s long-term plans to expand Indian aviation, including the order of 1,200 new aircraft and the development of up to 400 new airports by 2035. He stressed that while ticket prices are under scrutiny, the ministry aims to prevent passengers from facing undue financial burdens during peak travel seasons.

The aviation sector is currently facing challenges, particularly with budget carrier SpiceJet Airlines. Naidu confirmed the government is monitoring the airline’s ongoing financial difficulties, legal issues, and grounded aircraft, as it seeks funds to stabilise operations. Despite this turbulence, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to long-term infrastructure growth and industry development.

India’s vision for the future includes positioning the country as a global aviation leader. Naidu stated that by 2035, India aims to be the world’s largest aviation market, supported by massive infrastructure investments that will lay the foundation for future growth.
