Gadkari inaugurates Asia’s longest double-decker flyover in Nagpur

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has inaugurated Asia’s longest double-decker flyover in Nagpur, marking a major milestone in India’s urban infrastructure development.

The 5.6-kilometer-long flyover, a part of Nagpur’s urban transformation project, is set to ease traffic congestion and boost economic growth in the region.

Designed with a four-tier structure, the flyover features a Metro line on the top, a flyover beneath it, followed by a railway track, and a road at the base. This ambitious project aims to improve traffic flow on Nagpur’s busy Kamptee and Chhindwara roads, allowing motorists to travel from Kamptee to Nagpur airport in just 20 minutes, significantly reducing travel time.

At the inauguration, Gadkari emphasised the flyover’s importance in enhancing the city’s transportation network. “This double-decker flyover is a testament to our commitment to improving urban infrastructure. It will ease traffic congestion and provide a modern solution to Nagpur’s growing transportation needs,” Gadkari said.

The flyover, constructed at a cost of ₹573 crore, incorporates eco-friendly practices, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable development. “We must prioritize green initiatives in our infrastructure projects, and this flyover does just that by integrating advanced technology for air and light flow,” Gadkari added.

This landmark infrastructure is expected to stimulate local economic activity, attract investment, and improve road safety for motorists. Gadkari also highlighted the potential for using ultra-reinforced concrete technology, as seen in countries like Singapore and Malaysia, for future projects.

As Nagpur takes a significant step toward becoming a smart city with efficient transportation, the double-decker flyover serves as a model for other Indian cities, showcasing the future of urban planning and development.
