Uttarakhand launches Mount Kailash pilgrimage from India

Uttarakhand Tourism has launched the “Mount Kailash Darshan from Indian Soil” pilgrimage, allowing devotees to view the sacred Mount Kailash from the Old Lipulekh Peak in Pithoragarh district. The journey also includes a visit to Om Parvat. The first group of pilgrims embarked on this spiritual journey on October 2, and on October 3, they experienced the majestic sight of Mount Kailash from Old Lipulekh Peak.

The pilgrimage package includes helicopter tickets from Pithoragarh to Gunji and back, along with accommodation at KMVN guest houses or homestays. The first group of pilgrims expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, with participants like Neeraj Chowksey from Bhopal calling the new route a blessing for Shiva devotees worldwide. Amandeep Kumar Jindal from Chandigarh also expressed joy at being able to witness the mountain clearly due to favorable weather conditions.

The location from where Mount Kailash is visible was discovered recently by a team from Uttarakhand Tourism, BRO, and ITBP. Following their discovery, the necessary infrastructure was put in place to offer pilgrims a package tour that includes the darshan of Mount Kailash, Adi Kailash, and Om Parvat, all from Indian soil, eliminating the need for the traditional route through Tibet.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised the project, emphasising the government’s commitment to providing easier access for devotees. He also highlighted that Shiva devotees can now pay their respects to Mount Kailash from India, without waiting for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
