Launching its inaugural flight on June 26, 2024, Lufthansa City Airlines, the latest addition to the Lufthansa Group, will commence its operations with a flight from Munich to Birmingham. Starting April 24, 2024, travellers will have the opportunity to book tickets for feeder services connecting with Lufthansa, as well as direct flights between Munich and various destinations. These routes will be available under flight numbers bearing the new airline code “VL” through the established Lufthansa Group sales channels.
Fully integrated into the feeder network of Lufthansa’s hubs in Frankfurt and Munich, Lufthansa City Airlines will initially focus on flights from Munich to European and German domestic destinations such as Birmingham, Hanover, and Düsseldorf.
Equipped with aircraft from the A320 family, the airline is poised for expansion with a significant investment in 40 new fuel-efficient Airbus A220-300 aircraft, along with an additional 20 purchase options. This strategic move underscores the Lufthansa Group’s commitment to the future of Lufthansa City Airlines. As the fleet expands, the airline plans to introduce more European destinations gradually.
Jens Fehlinger, Managing Director Operations, Lufthansa City Airlines, emphasises the airline’s contribution to the future sustainability of the Munich and Frankfurt hubs. He expresses anticipation for the arrival of modern Airbus A220 and A320neo aircraft in the coming years, highlighting the role of fleet renewal in supporting Lufthansa’s growth strategy in long-haul traffic.
Passengers can expect the renowned Lufthansa product and service offering onboard for short and medium-haul routes, ensuring a seamless travel experience.
