Jamnagar Airport witnesses record 430 domestic, 110 international flights

The Jamnagar Airport witnessed a huge surge in air and passenger traffic owing to the pre-wedding function of businessman Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, which concluded on Sunday. According to officials, the airport has witnessed the movement of over 500 domestic and international flights in the past 7 days, with 4,500 passengers moving through the airport between February 26th and March 3rd.

D K Singh, Jamnagar Airport Director, said, “The traffic has increased like anything… From February 26th to March 4th, 2024, the total flight movement for domestic flights is 430, and for international flight, movement is 110 till date i.e March 4th.”

“On a single day we received 120 flight movements,” he added.

“We increased manpower, coordination, and planning; all of it has been done as a team effort,” the official said when asked about handling such a huge surge in air traffic.

Singh had mentioned on Sunday, 164 international passengers have arrived, and in total, we have handled 4,500 passengers in arrival as well as departure.”

The airport has been allowed to handle international flights from February 26th to March 6th by setting up a CIAQ (Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine) counter for a short period from February 26th to March 5th.

“We have increased the size of the departure area and the number of X-ray machines. Additionally, we have augmented the manpower, either through agencies or by bringing in personnel on deputation from other airports,” the official further said.
