In a groundbreaking move, the Gujarat government has partnered with Mazgaon Dock Limited (MDL) to unveil India’s inaugural submarine tourism project. The venture will focus on exploring the marine life around Bet Dwarka, a significant island off the coast of Dwarka city with mythological importance in Hinduism.
Scheduled to be operational before Diwali 2024, the tourism facility will offer a unique underwater experience, allowing tourists to dive 100 meters below the sea in a specially designed submarine. The submerged area is believed to harbour a city created by Lord Krishna, as per mythological texts.
Mirroring the Titanic submersible expedition, the submarine, weighing approximately 35 tonnes, will accommodate 30 passengers. Tourists will have the opportunity to sit in rows adjacent to window seats, providing a captivating view of the marine life around the island.
An official announcement about the project is anticipated during the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. Saurabh Pardhi, the managing director of Gujarat Tourism, expressed optimism about the venture, stating that it will significantly boost tourism in the city of Dwarka, already a popular destination due to its religious significance, particularly the renowned Dwarkadhish Temple.
