With 1.94 lakh tourists in January, Udaipur break 14-year record

As many as 1.94 lakh tourists visited Udaipur in January, surpassing the record of the last 14 years, according to figures released by the Rajasthan Tourism Department, reports TOI.

While the number of domestic tourists visiting the lake city in January was 1.80 lakh, foreign tourists numbered more than 14,000 in the same period. This was the highest footfall of tourists in the city in the last 14 years.
These numbers, coming after the Covid pandemic was over, has brightened hope among stakeholders in the tourism industry, more so because January is considered a lean tourist season in Udaipur as tourist footfall starts receding this month.

In December 2022, about 2.25 lakh tourists had come to Udaipur. Foreign tourists who visited Udaipur in January came mainly from the USA, UK, France and Israel.

Despite the lean tourism months ahead, the tourism industry is now expecting a reasonable tourist footfall during festivals like Holi.

Besides, since the G-20 conference is going to be held in Udaipur for the second time, diplomats from various countries will come to the lake city.

In the last week of March, Mewar Festival, to be organised by the Tourism Department, is also expected to ensure a flow of tourists to the city that had seen trickles in the past two years due to Covid and lockdown.

“The upward rise in the tourism graph shows Udaipur remains the most preferred tourist destination in the country. The administration and the department are working towards providing more facilities to tourists,” said Shikha Saxena, Deputy Director, Rajasthan Tourism. (Source: TOI)
