Vistara seeks developing new hub in Mumbai

Vistara is planning to increase its services out of Mumbai as it eyes several domestic and international routes from the city where yields are better, reports Gauri Joshi for Simple Flying.

Vinod Kannan, CEO, Vistara, said, “Mumbai is of high strategic importance for Vistara and is the second-biggest hub for us after Delhi. We have already increased daily departures from 38 to 50 from Mumbai since the pandemic. It has also helped us in developing a dense feeder network enabling convenient international connections for our customers.”

As air traffic picks up in a post-pandemic world, Mumbai could feature more prominently in Indian airlines’ network, particularly with two more national-level carriers planning to start operations later this year.

Mumbai commands a significant presence for air traffic in the western region of India. As the country’s financial hub, it has always been an important and busy airport both for domestic and international air traffic.

Vistara sees the value in establishing Mumbai as a strong base for feeder traffic in the region, particularly as it looks to expand its international schedule out of the city. Currently, it operates foreign-bound flights out of CSMIA to Singapore (SIN), Male (MLE), Dubai (DXB), and the soon-to-be-launched flight to Jeddah.

While its two Dreamliners are busy flying to Europe from Delhi, Mumbai is also likely to be connected to long-haul destinations by Vistara once it adds more wide-body capacity in the future. (Source: Simple Flying)
