In spite of persistent geopolitical tensions and macroeconomic uncertainties, Turkish Airlines achieved a milestone in 2023 by transporting 83.4 million passengers. This accomplishment was attributed to its ability to surpass competitors through swift capacity expansions, capitalising on its agility, extensive flight network, and a skilled workforce that remained steadfast throughout the pandemic. The company witnessed a remarkable surge in domestic passenger capacity by 23.5% compared to 2022, exceeding 30 million passengers. Additionally, on international routes, capacity increased by 16%, with Turkish Airlines accommodating 53 million passengers, marking a 14% increase. Particularly noteworthy was the over 20% year-over-year rise in passenger numbers in European countries with significant Turkish populations.

As part of its 100th Anniversary Strategy aiming to expand its fleet to 800 aircraft by 2033, Turkish Airlines augmented its aircraft count by 12% to 440 in 2023, despite global challenges in aircraft procurement and production bottlenecks.
As Turkey’s national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines played an active role in relief efforts following the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, the country’s largest and most devastating natural disasters. The airline provided humanitarian passenger and cargo flights free of charge, in addition to a 2 billion TL cash donation and funds for constructing 1,000 houses donated to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) to aid affected individuals.
With its 2023 achievements, Turkish Airlines underscored its dedication to the 2033 targets, which aim to create substantial value for all stakeholders. With goals of surpassing USD 50 billion in revenue and transporting over 170 million passengers by its 100th Anniversary, Turkish Airlines’ commitment to excellence in passenger experience, digitalisation, and sustainability earned recognition from leading aviation industry institutions. The airline was honored with a “Five-Star Global Airline” award for the third time by the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX), the “Europe’s Best Airline” award for the eighth time by Skytrax, and the “Most Sustainable Flag Carrier Airline” award for the second time by World Finance.
