Sydney unveils first-ever techno train ride

Embarking on a groundbreaking venture, Vivid Sydney introduces Tekno Train by Paul Mac, an unparalleled event set to revolutionise train travel into a sensory spectacle unlike any other in Australia.

Exclusively showcased at Vivid Sydney, the Southern Hemisphere’s premier multi-artform festival, and in collaboration with Sydney Trains, Tekno Train by Paul Mac promises to redefine the train journey as an electrifying musical odyssey for a limited engagement.

Passengers aboard will immerse themselves in an original techno soundtrack crafted by Paul Mac exclusively for Tekno Train, accompanied by immersive custom lighting illuminating every carriage. As the train traverses through Sydney’s city circle and disused lines, the lights and music will harmonise with the train’s motion, crafting an unforgettable melodic journey.

Ticketholders will embark on what initially seems like a standard K set train, but as it departs Central Station, the adventure unfolds. Concealed lights and speakers will orchestrate a communal experience with synchronised lights driven by techno music. This project continues Paul Mac’s musical journey, sharing his unique electronic dance music language in an unexpected setting.

Minister for Jobs and Tourism John Graham expressed excitement, stating, “Paul Mac’s tracks on the tracks will elevate the routine train experience into a joyous, shared moment. Vivid Sydney continues to set the bar high with innovative experiences, and Tekno Train does so yet again in 2024.”

Paul Mac shared his inspiration, saying, “Trains have always fascinated me, and Tekno Train takes this fascination further by turning a commuter journey into a sensory rollercoaster, driven by music and lights.”

Aligned with Vivid Sydney’s 2024 theme of ‘Humanity,’ Tekno Train celebrates the unifying power of music and community, encouraging audience to find moments of joy and wonder in everyday experiences.

Vivid Sydney Festival Director Gill Minervini highlighted the transformative nature of the event, stating, “Tekno Train by Paul Mac exemplifies how artforms can elevate everyday activities into memorable experiences. We’re excited to collaborate with Transport for NSW and Paul to bring this magical journey to our city.”

Offering two 60-minute routes departing from Central Station, Tekno Train provides options for scenic and immersive experiences. With tickets starting at USD 13.90 for children and USD 19.90 for adults, the event promises to be a highlight of Vivid Sydney.

Tekno Train by Paul Mac is supported by the NSW Government through Destination NSW and Create NSW, the Australian Government through Creative Australia, and the Wales Family Foundation, marking a collaborative effort to bring innovative art experiences to audience.
