Pushkar development plans announced by Rajasthan CM

Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari announced plans to transform Pushkar into a premier temple town, akin to Kashi Vishwanath and Ayodhya, through a collaborative effort between the central and state governments. This initiative aims to enhance religious tourism while preserving the region’s cultural and spiritual heritage. The announcement coincided with the conclusion of the historic Pushkar Fair 2024, which ended with a grand ceremony on Kartik Purnima.

During the closing ceremony at Pushkar Mela Ground, Kumari highlighted the beautification of Pushkar Lake and its ghats as key components of the development plan. Improved facilities for tourists and pilgrims are also central to the government’s efforts to elevate Pushkar’s standing as a global religious destination. She emphasised that these initiatives aim to balance modernisation with the preservation of traditional values and natural beauty.

The 2024 Pushkar Fair recorded a remarkable turnout, with over six lakh domestic pilgrims and 20,000 international tourists attending the seven-day event. This marked the highest visitor numbers since 2019, underlining Pushkar’s growing prominence on the tourism map and the effectiveness of Rajasthan’s tourism policies.

Kumari reiterated the government’s commitment to making Pushkar a world-class destination while improving the quality of life for its residents. “Pushkar holds immense significance not just for Rajasthan but for the entire country,” she stated, adding that the new developments will further highlight its religious, cultural, and historical importance.
