North Sikkim Imposes Temporary Ban on Tourist Permits Due to Severe Weather Conditions

In the wake of flash floods and landslides caused by the monsoon season, North Sikkim has encountered significant challenges, leading to the temporary suspension of fresh tourist permits. The worst-affected area, Chungthang in Mangan district, has witnessed extensive road damage, rendering it unsafe for visitors. As a result, district authorities have taken the precautionary measure of halting the issuance of tourist permits until further notice. The recent landslide caused considerable disruption, leaving approximately 2,464 tourists stranded, necessitating immediate rescue and evacuation efforts. The decision affects popular destinations like Lachen, Lachung, Yumthang Valley, and impacts travelers seeking adventure activities, spiritual journeys, and scenic landscapes in the region.
