Aviation ministry addresses SpiceJet’s challenges: Naidu

The civil aviation ministry is addressing issues faced by SpiceJet to ensure balanced airline operations amidst growing demand in India, Union Minister K. Rammohan Naidu said on Monday. SpiceJet is currently dealing with financial and legal challenges, prompting the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to place the airline under enhanced surveillance, including increased spot checks and night monitoring to ensure safety.

Naidu emphasised the need for more airlines to operate, given the high demand in the market, and highlighted the government’s efforts to resolve SpiceJet’s issues and maintain smooth airline operations. When asked about airfares, the minister noted that ticket prices are market-driven but are being closely monitored by the ministry.

In cases of significant price hikes, the ministry plans to offer suggestions to airlines to prevent fare surges from affecting passengers. Naidu made these remarks while addressing reporters at a conference organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in New Delhi.

The government’s ongoing efforts aim to balance market demand with ensuring safe and efficient airline services across the country, addressing the challenges faced by key players like SpiceJet.
