The Indian Railways introduced two baby berths in Lucknow Mail on a trial basis to assist mothers traveling with infants, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday. This initiative was part of a response to questions from BJP MP Sumer Singh Solanki, who inquired whether the government was considering installing baby berth seats in train coaches.
Vaishnaw noted that the initial feedback from passengers appreciated the effort. However, he acknowledged that there were some concerns, such as limited luggage space under the seats and reduced knee room, which caused inconvenience to passengers.
He emphasised that the modification and upgrading of passenger coaches is an ongoing process for the railways, suggesting that improvements and adjustments will continue to be made based on feedback and requirements.
