Visakhapatnam is poised for a tourism push, as Andhra Pradesh’s Tourism Special Chief Secretary Ajay Jain has called for positioning the city as a global-standard destination. During a review meeting held at the Collectorate, Jain urged officials to craft comprehensive awareness campaigns focused on adventure activities, water sports, and cruise tourism to elevate the city’s profile among both domestic and international travellers.
Jain emphasised Visakhapatnam’s potential to host national and global-scale events, stressing the need for robust infrastructure, including a target of 10,000 star-rated hotel rooms. He reviewed progress on hospitality projects, urging swift land acquisition for the upcoming Oberoi Hotel at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram and My Fairs Hotel at Bheemunipatnam in Visakhapatnam. Officials were told to ensure timely land handovers and expedite development of basic amenities like roads, electricity, and water supply from the Gosthani River.
The importance of district-level coordination was highlighted, with Jain instructing revenue officials to extend full support to the hotel chains investing in the region. He underlined the role of these projects in generating employment and improving the district’s tourism appeal. Jain also called for innovative project designs that would make Visakhapatnam stand out as a dynamic and modern destination.
In the latter part of the meeting, discussions centered around developing tourist attractions across the district. Jain directed that prominent signboards and hoardings be installed to guide visitors and promote lesser-known local gems. District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad presented updates on proposed projects in key areas like RK Beach and Rushikonda, affirming the administration’s commitment to transforming Visakhapatnam into a premier tourism destination.
