In a major boost to spiritual tourism, seaplane services are set to launch in Tirupati under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme. The Kalyani Dam has been identified as the site for the new water aerodrome, offering scenic aerial access to India’s spiritual heartland.
Backed by the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL), the initiative aims to connect pilgrim destinations faster and more efficiently. A successful test flight between Vijayawada and Srisailam has already demonstrated the viability of the concept, speeding up efforts for Tirupati.
Feedback Highways has been appointed to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The choice of Tirupati is strategic — it not only hosts the world-famous Lord Venkateswara Temple, but also boasts excellent air connectivity, with nearby attractions like Kapila Theertham, Govindaraja Swamy Temple, and Chandragiri Fort enhancing tourism appeal.
The seaplane rollout is expected in phases, with operations likely to commence by late 2025 or early 2026, once required infrastructure is in place. The project reflects the growing push to blend regional accessibility with tourism-driven economic growth in India.
