Central Railway has removed a long-standing speed restriction on a crucial section in Maharashtra, allowing faster train movement on the busy Mumbai–Nagpur rail corridor. This step is part of broader efforts to upgrade infrastructure, improve safety, and enhance travel efficiency.
The restriction was lifted after the successful completion of Through Formation Treatment (TFTR) work on the Up line of the Asvali–Padli section. This section falls under the Bhusaval Division and plays a key role in maintaining smooth operations on the Mumbai–Nagpur route.
Earlier, a Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) of 75 kmph was imposed over an 800-metre stretch between specific kilometre points. This limitation slowed down trains and required constant monitoring, especially during the monsoon season due to track vulnerability.
The project came with engineering challenges, as the section is located in a semi-ghat area with difficult access. The track sits at a height of around 9 metres and includes a curved alignment, making construction and maintenance work more complex.
Railway officials stated that the work was carefully planned and executed after the monsoon of 2025 to ensure durability and safety. With the restriction now removed, trains can operate at higher speeds, reducing travel time for passengers on this important route.
In addition to infrastructure upgrades, Central Railway has also expanded its services. During FY 2025–26, it operated 8,840 special train trips, including festival specials, and plans to run over 2,100 summer special trains to meet rising passenger demand.
