In a strategic move to enhance connectivity between the Indian Subcontinent and Africa, Air India and Air Mauritius have expanded their existing codeshare partnership. The enhanced agreement was signed during the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting in New Delhi, with Air India CEO Campbell Wilson and Air Mauritius Chairman Kishore Beegoo in attendance.
Under the new arrangement, both airlines will place their respective designator codes—‘AI’ and ‘MK’—on a total of 17 routes covering India, Mauritius, Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar. This development enables travelers to seamlessly fly between these destinations with single-ticket booking and baggage transfers across both networks.
Air India will now codeshare on Air Mauritius flights connecting to Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Antananarivo, extending its reach across key Southern African cities. Air Mauritius, in turn, will expand its code presence on Air India’s domestic network, adding routes to and from cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
“India is a top source market for Southern Africa, and this expansion significantly strengthens our international network,” said Campbell Wilson. Kishore Beegoo added that the move will provide Indian travellers better access to the Indian Ocean region and the cultural richness of Mauritius.
The expanded codeshare flights will be available for booking starting July 1, 2025, through both airlines’ platforms and authorised travel agents.
