The Ministry of Tourism is set to establish city-level Convention Promotion Bureaus across India from next year as part of a broader effort to strengthen the country’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism sector. The initiative aims to position India as a preferred destination for global business events and conventions.
The announcement was made by Additional Secretary and Director General of Tourism, Suman Billa, during the inauguration of the IEIA EventTech and MarTech Summit 2025 in New Delhi. He highlighted the growing importance of MICE tourism in enhancing India’s tourism competitiveness and economic growth.
According to the Ministry, the proposed City MICE Bureaus will function as single-window facilitators, assisting event organisers with permissions, local partnerships and coordination with government agencies. This is expected to simplify the process of hosting large-scale international events in India.
India’s states are increasingly developing unique tourism products under the Incredible India campaign. Officials believe that stronger MICE infrastructure and institutional support will help attract more international conferences, exhibitions and incentive travel groups.
The establishment of dedicated bureaus is expected to serve as a key pillar of a comprehensive national MICE strategy. Industry stakeholders anticipate that the move will improve destination promotion, event management capabilities and international competitiveness.
With growing demand for business tourism worldwide, India aims to leverage its expanding infrastructure, hospitality sector and diverse destinations to strengthen its position on the global MICE map while generating employment and economic opportunities.
