Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, dedicated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth around INR 2,970 crore in Daman. The projects cover sectors including healthcare, aviation, tourism, education, connectivity and urban infrastructure, aiming to accelerate growth across the Union Territory.
Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister described Daman as a “Mini India” due to its diverse population and highlighted the rapid progress made by Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli in recent years. He noted that each visit to the region reflects significant advancements in infrastructure and public services.
The Prime Minister said the newly launched projects would improve the quality of life for residents while creating fresh opportunities for young people. Key infrastructure initiatives, including the Namo Airport, Damanganga Bridge and Transport Nagar, are expected to strengthen connectivity, logistics and economic activity.
Highlighting tourism development, Modi said the government is promoting heritage, eco and adventure tourism through initiatives such as the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ campaign. He noted that tourism footfall in the region has increased nearly tenfold in recent years due to improved beaches, waterfront developments and new attractions like the Daman Night Market and Namo Path Seafront.
On healthcare, the Prime Minister emphasised the impact of schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Jan Aushadhi Kendras and Mission Indradhanush. He highlighted improvements in institutional deliveries, child immunisation and access to affordable healthcare, while also inaugurating advanced healthcare facilities to strengthen medical services in the region.
Modi also stressed the importance of education, skill development, renewable energy and manufacturing growth. He announced new educational facilities, including a NIFT campus and advanced technical courses, while expressing confidence that the region will emerge as a major manufacturing, tourism and blue economy hub in the coming years.
