Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an on-site inspection of the Sharda Corridor project in Tanakpur and the Banbasa Land Port, both of which are significant for the state’s development. The Sharda Corridor aims to improve infrastructure and facilities for pilgrims visiting Maa Purnagiri Dham, one of Uttarakhand’s most revered shrines. The Chief Minister reviewed construction progress and directed officials to ensure the project maintains quality standards while being completed within the scheduled timeframe.
The Sharda Corridor, approved at a cost of INR 500 crore in its first phase, is designed to transform the region into a key spiritual and tourism hub. Once completed, it will increase the corridor’s capacity from 2,000 to over 10,000 devotees per day, easing crowd management during peak pilgrimage seasons. The corridor will feature new pathways, rest areas, improved sanitation, and enhanced safety systems for pilgrims’ convenience.
During his visit, Dhami highlighted that the Banbasa Land Port will play a crucial role in enhancing cross-border connectivity and trade between India and Nepal. The project includes modern customs, immigration, and logistics facilities, aimed at streamlining the movement of goods and passengers. The initiative will not only strengthen bilateral relations but also provide economic opportunities for border communities.
The Chief Minister stated that both projects reflect the state government’s vision of balanced development, combining religious tourism with economic growth. He emphasised that the Sharda Corridor will attract national and international tourists, contributing significantly to Uttarakhand’s revenue and local employment.
Dhami also underlined the importance of sustainable development and environmental protection during construction. The government is ensuring that all materials used are eco-friendly, and special attention is given to preserving the natural landscape of the region. Local communities are being involved in the project to ensure inclusive growth and shared benefits.
Overall, the Sharda Corridor and Banbasa Land Port projects represent Uttarakhand’s efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure, regional connectivity, and trade efficiency, strengthening its position as a major destination for spirituality and cross-border cooperation.
