In a major shift aimed at strengthening ties with India and attracting global talent, the United Arab Emirates has launched a nomination-based Golden Visa programme for Indian nationals. Unlike the previous system that required investments of AED 2 million in property or business, the new model allows eligible applicants to obtain lifetime residency in the UAE by paying a one-time fee of AED 100,000 (approx. INR 23.3 lakh), without any asset ownership. This development opens doors for Indian professionals across sectors including science, culture, finance, startups, and education.
The nomination model will assess individuals based on their societal contributions, expertise, and reputation. Applicants will undergo a comprehensive vetting process including background checks, financial scrutiny, and social media screening. A recommendation from a relevant authority — whether government, regulatory, or industry-specific — is essential. The initiative is being managed by Rayad Group in partnership with VFS and One Vasco centres across India, with online and call-centre support available for a seamless application experience.
Key benefits of the UAE Golden Visa include freedom to reside outside the UAE for extended periods, no local sponsor requirement, and the ability to sponsor spouses, children, parents, and domestic staff. Even after selling any property or business in the UAE, visa holders can retain their residency. The visa grants full freedom to live, work, study, or conduct business across the Emirates. This step aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to become a global hub for skilled professionals and entrepreneurs.
This pilot programme, initially rolled out for India and Bangladesh, is expected to receive over 5,000 applications within three months. In addition to the nomination route, the UAE continues to offer Golden Visas in categories such as real estate investors, entrepreneurs, top students, educators, content creators, and humanitarian workers. The move reflects the deepening strategic engagement between India and the UAE, further accelerated by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in 2022.
