The Ministry of Tourism has made significant progress under the Special Campaign 5.0, an initiative designed to enhance cleanliness, streamline administrative work, and promote transparency across its departments. As of October 2025, the ministry has successfully achieved 24% of its identified targets, demonstrating strong commitment to efficient governance and responsible tourism management. The campaign covers more than 6,400 specific goals, highlighting the scale and dedication behind this nationwide initiative.
The campaign involves multiple tourism bodies, including India Tourism Offices, Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs), the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), and the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). Each institution plays a vital role in ensuring that the ministry’s objectives for cleanliness and record management are met. The coordinated efforts across departments underline a systematic approach toward sustainability and improved service delivery within the tourism ecosystem.
A major component of the campaign includes cleanliness drives across 413 designated sites, covering tourist destinations, government premises, and educational institutions. These efforts aim to create cleaner, more welcoming environments for both domestic and international travellers. The Ministry’s focus on maintaining hygiene standards not only supports the government’s “Swachh Bharat” mission but also enhances India’s global image as a responsible and sustainable travel destination.
In addition to cleanliness drives, the Special Campaign 5.0 also emphasises disposing of old and pending files, a move that reflects the Ministry’s intent to reduce bureaucratic delays and promote administrative efficiency. The digital tracking and review of files through the SCDPM (Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters) portal ensure better accountability and real-time progress monitoring. This initiative has already resulted in faster decision-making and improved workflow across several departments.
The Ministry’s active participation and measurable results demonstrate a clear focus on governance reforms, cleanliness, and service quality. With the involvement of regional and central tourism offices, the campaign is fostering a sense of responsibility and awareness about sustainable tourism management among officials and stakeholders alike.
Through Special Campaign 5.0, the Ministry of Tourism continues to strengthen its role in creating a cleaner, more efficient, and transparent system. The progress achieved so far reflects not just administrative diligence but also a collective vision to make India’s tourism infrastructure cleaner, greener, and more globally competitive.
