The Ministry of Tourism has launched the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, aiming to develop iconic tourist destinations in India to global standards. The initiative focuses on enhancing the overall tourist experience through comprehensive infrastructure upgrades, sustainability measures, and innovative branding strategies.
Under SASCI, state governments submitted project proposals that were evaluated based on factors like connectivity, ecological impact, existing facilities, and market potential. The final approved projects are expected to be implemented within two years, with financial assistance from the Centre until March 31, 2026. However, the management and execution of these projects will rest with the respective state authorities.
The scheme intends to create world-class tourism hubs by improving the entire value chain—from transport links to operations and marketing. By prioritising sustainable development and carrying capacity, SASCI also ensures that the selected destinations remain ecologically balanced while welcoming larger footfalls.
To further boost visibility, the Ministry will promote these destinations through its domestic and international campaigns, leveraging digital platforms, events, and global tourism networks. Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat shared these details in the Lok Sabha.
