Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) is poised to launch direct flights to Kitakyushu, Japan, marking a strategic step toward deepening Indo-Japanese ties. This development follows Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy’s recent visit to Japan and a high-level delegation from Kitakyushu, led by Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi, attending the Telangana Formation Day in Hyderabad.
The two regions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering environmental protection and recycling innovation—paving the way for stronger ties and future connectivity.
Officials revealed plans for a direct Hyderabad–Kitakyushu route during the bilateral meetings. The new connection aims to bridge existing gaps in Hyderabad’s international flight network, especially to East Asia. With RGIA already connecting to 20 overseas destinations and recording a 15.2% year-on-year surge in passenger traffic, the Kitakyushu flight would further enhance the airport’s global reach.
As Hyderabad eyes a record-breaking 3 crore passengers in the next fiscal, this route could play a key role in positioning the city as a pan-Asian aviation hub, strengthening both economic and cultural ties between Telangana and Japan.
