In a strategic move to revive tourism infrastructure, the Himachal Pradesh government has approved leasing out 14 loss-making hotels run by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) on an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) basis. The decision was formalised in the HPTDC Board meeting following a Cabinet nod led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The plan aims to improve service quality and enhance visitor satisfaction by bringing in professional management while relieving financial pressure on the state. The hotels identified for O&M include Hotel Hill Top Swarghat, Hotel Lakeview Bilaspur, Hotel Apple Blossom Fagu, Hotel Shivalik Parwanoo, Kashmir House Dharamshala, and nine others located across popular tourist hubs.
Officials believe that private management will ensure better maintenance, modern amenities, and customer-centric services. The Principal Secretary (Tourism) has directed HPTDC to roll out the plan within three months.
By outsourcing operations while retaining ownership, the state hopes to attract more footfall, generate revenue, and foster tourism-led growth, reinforcing Himachal Pradesh’s position as a premier mountain destination.
