Karnataka’s luxury train, The Golden Chariot, is all set to extend its routes beyond the southern circuit, introducing new destinations like Mumbai and Aurangabad. Operated by IRCTC in collaboration with the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), the train has long been known for offering royal experiences through India’s southern heritage sites. The new expansion aims to include popular attractions such as the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, offering travelers a chance to explore Maharashtra’s historical treasures in unmatched comfort and elegance.
The proposed Bengaluru-to-Mumbai circuit is expected to commence in the next financial year. The new Mumbai package will include iconic destinations such as Mysuru and Hampi, with discussions underway to also add Goa to the itinerary. The five-night, six-day route aims to provide a perfect blend of heritage, leisure, and scenic exploration, connecting South India’s cultural grandeur with Western India’s historical beauty.
According to sources, tour operators are suggesting additional circuits, including short and unique journeys that highlight lesser-known destinations. Coordination between government agencies, private operators, and hotels is expected to enhance logistics and overall guest experience. These collaborative efforts will make the luxury train experience more accessible, efficient, and inclusive for both domestic and international travellers.
Currently, The Golden Chariot offers three primary itineraries — Pride of Karnataka, Jewels of South, and Glimpses of Karnataka. Each journey, ranging from four to seven days, showcases the rich cultural and architectural heritage of Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. The expansion into Maharashtra will be a major step in positioning the Golden Chariot as a pan-India luxury rail experience.
The train itself is a masterpiece of design and comfort, reflecting Dravidian culture with its elegant wooden interiors, deluxe cabins, and modern amenities. Guests enjoy two fine-dining restaurants, a gym, a conference room, and an Ayurvedic spa, offering the perfect balance of tradition and luxury. The 18-coach train can host up to 84 guests, ensuring exclusivity and personalised service throughout the journey.
