Digital travel platform Agoda has released new insights highlighting strong domestic travel interest in India’s North-East during the year-end holiday season. Darjeeling in West Bengal has emerged as the most searched destination in the region on Agoda for travel between October and December 2025, reflecting its enduring appeal among Indian travellers.
Based on accommodation searches made by Indian users between July and September 2025, the data shows that Gangtok in Sikkim ranked second, followed by Shillong in Meghalaya. Together, these three hill destinations form the top trio, attracting travellers with their scenic landscapes, pleasant climate and rich cultural experiences during the festive and winter months.
Guwahati in Assam secured the fourth position, while Siliguri in West Bengal ranked fifth. Guwahati’s vibrant urban life and role as a major gateway to the North-East, along with Siliguri’s strategic connectivity to hill stations and neighbouring states, make both cities important stops in regional travel itineraries.
Beyond the leading destinations, Agoda’s data also points to rising interest in smaller towns across the North-East. Places such as Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, Pelling in Sikkim and Kalimpong in West Bengal are increasingly catching the attention of domestic travellers seeking quieter, experience-led holidays.
These emerging destinations add depth to the North-East travel circuit. Cherrapunji is known for its lush greenery and waterfalls, Pelling offers panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga range, while Kalimpong charms visitors with its colonial architecture, flower markets and relaxed pace of life.
Commenting on the trend, Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, said the growing interest reflects travellers’ desire to explore India’s diverse landscapes. He added that more accommodation providers across hotels, homestays and alternative stays are joining Agoda to meet rising demand, helping travellers access a wider range of stay options for year-end trips.
