The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has achieved a milestone by reopening Zojila Pass in just 32 days. This vital link between Kashmir and Ladakh was officially reopened today as Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan flagged off the first convoy.
One of the world’s most challenging high-altitude routes, Zojila Pass faced a 17-day closure due to heavy snowfall. However, BRO’s dedicated personnel undertook an aggressive snow-clearing operation, completing it in a record 15 days, despite extreme weather conditions.
This reopening is crucial for troop movement, essential supplies, and the livelihood of Ladakh’s residents. Thanks to advanced technology and improved techniques, BRO has significantly reduced the pass’s closure period from six months to just weeks.
Under Project Beacon and Project Vijayak, BRO remains committed to maintaining critical connectivity. This success highlights India’s ability to tackle geographical and climatic challenges, ensuring strategic access to Ladakh.
