SpiceJet is set to expand its fleet by 20 leased aircraft by mid-November as the airline prepares for increased demand during the upcoming winter and holiday travel season.
The carrier plans to raise its operations to around 200 daily flights during the peak period, with the additional capacity aimed at strengthening connectivity, adding frequencies and offering more options on high-demand routes.
The aircraft are scheduled to be inducted between mid-October and mid-November, beginning around the Durga Puja period. The fleet addition will comprise 15 Boeing and five Airbus aircraft, with the planes being introduced under wet and damp lease arrangements.
Under a damp lease, the lessor generally provides the aircraft, flight crew and maintenance support, while the airline supplies cabin crew. A wet lease includes the aircraft and the complete operating crew along with associated maintenance and insurance arrangements.
Among the five Airbus aircraft, an A321 is planned for induction, providing greater seating capacity compared with some of SpiceJet’s existing narrow-body aircraft. The expanded fleet is expected to support both the winter schedule and the following summer peak period.
SpiceJet said the additional capacity will help strengthen its domestic and international network while easing capacity constraints and supporting more stable airfares during periods of heightened travel demand.
