The Maharashtra government has approved INR 2,267 crore for land acquisition related to the 2027 Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela. The funds have been sanctioned through a government resolution issued by the Urban Development Department to support preparations for one of the country’s largest religious gatherings.
The sanctioned amount will be provided to the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority for acquiring land reserved within municipal limits. The land will primarily be used for developing a temporary township known as Sadhu Gram.
Sadhu Gram serves as a dedicated accommodation area for seers, saints, and various religious akharas that participate in the Kumbh Mela. The facility plays a crucial role in managing the large influx of pilgrims and religious groups during the event.
The government has emphasised that the allocated funds must be utilised strictly for the approved purpose. Authorities have directed that the money should only be used for acquiring the designated land parcels linked to the Kumbh Mela project.
Officials have also warned against diverting the sanctioned funds for any other purpose. Any misuse or reallocation of the amount will be treated as a serious financial irregularity and may invite disciplinary and legal action against those responsible.
The land acquisition initiative forms a key part of the state’s preparations for the 2027 Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela. The project is expected to strengthen infrastructure, improve crowd management, and ensure better facilities for millions of devotees expected to attend the religious congregation.
