Kerala’s Kappad and Chal Beaches Earn Blue Flag Certification

Kerala’s Kappad Beach in Kozhikode and Chal Beach in Kannur have received the prestigious Blue Flag certification from the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). This recognition is awarded for adhering to stringent environmental, safety, and sustainability standards.

Tourism Minister Shri P A Mohamed Riyas highlighted the Blue Flag status as a boost to Kerala’s global appeal, cementing the state’s reputation as a premier sustainable tourism destination.

Calling it a ‘milestone,’ Shri Riyas stated, “Kerala continues to set global benchmarks by preserving its picturesque landscapes while promoting eco-friendly initiatives, offering a unique experience for tourists.”

Tourism Director Smt Sikha Surendran noted that the certification reflects Kerala’s commitment to responsible and accessible tourism, aligning with international standards.

Kappad and Chal beaches have become exemplary models of Responsible Tourism (RT) by implementing eco-friendly measures, ensuring hygienic and safe conditions for visitors. This achievement underlines Kerala’s efforts to attract environmentally conscious travellers and support sustainable tourism practices.

The Blue Flag certification, awarded by FEE, recognises beaches, marinas, and boating operators that fulfill 33 stringent criteria, including sustainability and safety measures.
