West Bengal is considering the launch of a digital accommodation platform aimed at helping tourists access real-time information on room availability across the state. The proposal seeks to make travel planning easier by providing updated details about hotels, lodges, homestays and other accommodation options before visitors begin their journeys.
Tourism Minister Ghosh announced that the proposal is currently under review and will be discussed with stakeholders and relevant authorities before any final decision is made. The platform is expected to improve transparency and convenience for both domestic and international travellers visiting various destinations across West Bengal.
The minister stated that the state government is focusing on accelerating tourism development over the next six months. Key priorities include strengthening tourism infrastructure, improving visitor experiences and expanding tourism services through the adoption of modern digital solutions.
Addressing environmental concerns in North Bengal, Ghosh acknowledged that illegal mining and unregulated tourism activities have impacted the region’s ecological balance. He emphasized that future tourism projects would follow sustainable development principles and support environmental conservation efforts.
The government also plans to promote religious tourism, especially among senior citizens, as part of its strategy to diversify tourism offerings. Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models are being explored to enhance tourism infrastructure and improve the quality of services available to visitors.
In addition, the state aims to showcase the unique cultural, historical and geographical attractions of every district. By encouraging travellers to explore destinations beyond traditional tourist circuits, West Bengal hopes to create a more inclusive and diverse tourism ecosystem while boosting local economic development.
