SpiceJet is preparing for a significant international expansion, with plans to introduce new flights to Vietnam and Kazakhstan, according to sources familiar with the development. This move comes as the carrier continues to induct more Boeing 737 Max aircraft back into its fleet.
Sources told that the airline is targeting medium-haul routes connecting India with Southeast Asia and Central Asia, with Vietnam and Kazakhstan among the key upcoming destinations. While the airline has not officially responded to queries regarding the new routes, insiders indicate that formal announcements are expected soon.
The expansion reflects SpiceJet’s ongoing efforts to increase its international footprint and offer passengers more affordable and accessible travel options. The new routes are part of a broader network growth strategy that also includes a major boost to the airline’s domestic operations.
Earlier this month, SpiceJet announced the launch of a new international route between Delhi and Kathmandu, with daily direct flights scheduled to commence from May 10. The airline already operates flights to several overseas destinations, including Dubai and Bangkok.
On the domestic front, SpiceJet is ramping up operations as part of its Summer 2025 schedule, with plans to introduce 24 new flights.
These will include connections to three new cities—Thoothukudi, Porbandar, and Dehradun—as well as several new sector routes.
From March 30, Thoothukudi will be connected to Chennai and Bengaluru, with twice-daily flights to Chennai and daily service to Bengaluru. Dehradun will gain direct connectivity to Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai, while Porbandar will be linked with Mumbai via a twice-weekly non-stop service.
The domestic network will also see new connections on sectors such as Ahmedabad-Srinagar and Pune-Varanasi, in addition to the reinstatement of services between Bengaluru-Goa and Pune-Chennai.
This expansion drive follows SpiceJet’s successful fundraising of INR 3,000 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP). The fresh capital infusion is expected to support the airline’s growth plans and enhance operational efficiency.
In a parallel development, SpiceJet has resolved several legal disputes with aircraft lessors, including a recent settlement with global engine lessor Willis Lease Finance Corporation. The agreement resulted in a “substantial saving” for the airline and led to the withdrawal of an insolvency case filed by Willis Lease.
In a further boost to its operational credentials, SpiceJet recently renewed its IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certification, a globally recognised benchmark for airline safety. The certification, valid until March 2027, underscores the airline’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards.
The IOSA audit, conducted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), is an internationally accepted evaluation of an airline’s operational management and control systems.
