Pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra this year will be permitted to carry up to 20 kg of essential goods per person into Chinese territory, according to officials overseeing the pilgrimage arrangements.
The Ministry of External Affairs has also approved an additional 5 kg of general weight allowance for each group of pilgrims. The provisions are aimed at ensuring travellers have adequate supplies during the high-altitude journey.
The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam, the nodal agency managing arrangements in India, said every batch will be accompanied by a five-member service team comprising one doctor and four cooks. If the medical officer advises against continuing the journey due to health concerns, the entire group will have to return from that point.
The first batch of pilgrims is scheduled to leave New Delhi on June 30 and reach the Dharchula base camp on July 5 for an overnight halt before proceeding further on the pilgrimage route.
Pilgrims will also be allowed to carry essential medicines to treat up to 20 different ailments while travelling in Tibet, ensuring better medical preparedness during the journey.
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra remains one of India’s most significant spiritual pilgrimages, and authorities have put in place detailed arrangements to ensure the safety, health and comfort of all participants.
