Mizoram is aiming to position itself as the “Winter Capital of India” as part of a larger strategy to strengthen tourism and attract visitors during the colder months. Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar shared the vision during a meeting in New Delhi with Bhuvnesh Kumar.
The state government is focusing on developing tourism infrastructure while preserving the rich cultural traditions of the Mizo community. Officials believe the pleasant winter climate, scenic landscapes and unique cultural experiences can help the state emerge as a major seasonal tourism destination in India.
According to Minister Hmar, the government wants tourists not only to visit but also to stay longer in the state. Plans are being prepared to encourage travellers to spend more time exploring Aizawl and nearby destinations before travelling deeper into the state. Tourism attractions around the capital are also expected to receive further upgrades.
Union Tourism Secretary Bhuvnesh Kumar highlighted that Aizawl has already emerged as an important tourism centre because of its accessibility and improving hospitality facilities. He also pointed to the untapped tourism potential of the state and backed the “One State: One Global Destination” initiative.
The Centre has reportedly assured support for Mizoram’s tourism plans, with officials describing the seasonal tourism model as practical and promising for the Northeast region. The meeting was also attended by R Lalrodingi.
