IndiGo has bolstered its aircraft financing capabilities with the inauguration of a new office for its wholly-owned subsidiary, InterGlobe Aviation Financial Services IFSC Private Limited (GCE), at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), Gandhinagar.
The move comes as part of IndiGo’s long-term strategy to strengthen financial autonomy and support its aggressive fleet expansion plans. GCE has already financed more than 30 aircraft, including models from the Airbus A320neo family and ATRs, by the end of FY 2024–25. This expansion is expected to reduce IndiGo’s reliance on external lessors and enable the airline to better navigate global market dynamics.
The inauguration of the modern, larger office was marked by a traditional puja ceremony, followed by a formal gathering attended by IndiGo’s senior leadership, including CEO Pieter Elbers, CFO Gaurav Negi, and Chief of Fleet Acquisition and Financing. Representatives from key international leasing partners were also present, underscoring the global relevance of GCE’s operations.
Commenting on the milestone, Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, said, “We are delighted to move to our new office at GIFT City, Gandhinagar. In line with the government’s vision to create a world-class, self-reliant ecosystem for aircraft leasing and financing, this expansion supports our growth strategy, enabling us to enhance services and explore new opportunities.”
GCE began operations after securing a captive finance company license from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) on June 26, 2024. The company formally commenced operations on July 15, 2024, and delivered its first financed aircraft—an Airbus A320neo—to IndiGo on August 22, 2024.
The decision to establish GCE’s base at GIFT City reflects IndiGo’s confidence in the regulatory ecosystem, which is designed to support global financial operations. As GIFT City gains prominence as a preferred hub for aviation financing in Asia, IndiGo’s move is expected to attract greater interest from across the industry and help catalyse the growth of India’s aircraft leasing sector.
Looking ahead, GCE is expected to play a pivotal role in financing a majority of IndiGo’s future aircraft acquisitions. The airline is aiming to scale up its fleet to 2,000 aircraft over the coming years. By internalising its aircraft financing, IndiGo plans to gain cost efficiencies, increase financial control, and implement innovative leasing models suited to evolving global aviation trends.
The opening of the new GCE office at GIFT City represents a significant step forward for IndiGo, reinforcing its commitment to financial innovation and strategic growth in India’s rapidly evolving aviation sector.
