IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Lumbini Heritage Limited to develop Crowne Plaza Lumbini, marking the brand’s second hotel in Nepal and reinforcing IHG’s commitment to premium hospitality in South Asia. Scheduled to open in 2026, the 147-key property aims to cater to both spiritual travellers visiting the birthplace of Lord Buddha and business guests attending meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE).
Located just four kilometres from the main pilgrimage site and 18 kilometres from Gautam Buddha Airport, the upcoming hotel will offer 137 elegantly designed rooms and 10 luxury suites. It will also feature state-of-the-art meeting facilities, including a spacious banquet hall, ideal for large gatherings and corporate events. The property’s design will blend modern comfort with cultural sensitivity, enhancing Lumbini’s appeal to international tourists and pilgrims.
According to Sudeep Jain, Managing Director for South West Asia at IHG Hotels & Resorts, the new Crowne Plaza reflects IHG’s vision to expand world-class hospitality across emerging destinations. He emphasised that the hotel will serve as a key addition to IHG’s growing South Asian portfolio, delivering signature experiences that combine business efficiency with warm, local hospitality.
Subhash Amatya, Chairman of Lumbini Heritage Limited, expressed confidence that the project will set a new benchmark for premium hospitality in Nepal. He noted that Lumbini’s increasing visibility on the global spiritual tourism map makes it an ideal destination for a renowned international brand like Crowne Plaza. The hotel’s modern amenities and tranquil setting will attract both global travellers and domestic guests seeking a superior stay experience.
Beyond its religious significance, Lumbini is emerging as a cultural and business hub, supported by improving infrastructure and connectivity. The arrival of Crowne Plaza Lumbini is expected to boost local tourism, create employment opportunities, and stimulate economic growth, aligning with Nepal’s long-term vision for sustainable tourism development.
With its smart design, flexible spaces, and signature Crowne Plaza services, the hotel will act as a gateway for both spiritual discovery and business engagement, positioning Lumbini as a rising destination for international hospitality and a symbol of Nepal’s growing tourism potential.
