HDFC Bank has announced a significant change to its airport lounge access policy for debit cardholders, set to take effect from 2026. Under the new system, customers will no longer be able to simply swipe their debit cards at lounges. Instead, access will move to a voucher-based model linked to quarterly spending, marking a shift towards rewarding active card usage.
As per the revised rules, customers must spend a minimum of INR 10,000 in a quarter to become eligible for complimentary lounge access. This threshold has been doubled from the earlier INR 5,000 requirement. Once the spending criterion is met, HDFC Bank will send an SMS or email containing a link to generate a lounge access voucher.
After claiming the voucher, customers will receive a 12–18 digit code or a QR code, which must be presented at the lounge for entry. The voucher will remain valid from the date of generation until the end of the following calendar quarter, offering flexibility in planning travel. Lounge access, however, will continue to be subject to availability on a first-come, first-served basis.
The number of complimentary lounge visits remains unchanged and continues to depend on the debit card variant. Cards such as Millennia, Platinum, Business, and GIGA offer between one and two visits per quarter, while the premium Infiniti Debit Card continues to provide four complimentary visits without any minimum spend requirement.
HDFC Bank has clarified that only retail and online purchases will be counted towards the spending threshold. Transactions such as cash withdrawals, UPI or wallet payments, debit card EMIs, and credit card bill payments will not qualify. This ensures the benefit is aligned strictly with merchant-based spending.
The updated lounge access policy applies across a network of eligible lounges in major Indian airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. With this move, HDFC Bank aims to streamline lounge access while encouraging higher debit card usage among its customers.
